Chintheche score late to snatch home point
Chintheche United began their journey at the Mzuzu Stadium with a draw after scoring late to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw against Chilumba Barracks in the NBS Bank National Division League on Sunday.
Chikondi Banda scored in the 75th minute for Chintheche to cancel out Mapopa Munthali's 61 minutes goal for the visitors as the two teams shared spoils after 90 minutes.
Head coach for Chintheche United, Isaac Kapyepye, described the result as disappointing as the team tried hard to find a winner but missed a lot of chances in the game.
"After they got a red card, we tried to attack more and we left our defense vulnerable that's when we conceded a penalty. I believe we could have done better in the first half because we controlled everything but we missed chances and in football, you are punished for it," said Kapyepye.
On his part, assistant coach for Chilumba Barracks George Howard said his team was just lucky to leave Mzuzu Stadium wit
with a point in their back.
"It was a very hard game for us as we didn't play well. Being away and getting a point I think it is good for us," said Howard.
Chintheche United have now 18 points from four wins, 6 draws and four defeats on position 8, sitting just two points above the relegation zone while Chilumba remain 10th in the log table with 16 points from three wins, 7 draws and four defeats in the league.
