Silver Ladies restore five-points gap with derby win
Silver Strikers Ladies maintained their impressive start of the season with their 7th win of the season after beating their neighbours, Civil Women 2-1 at the Silver Stadium in the National Bank of Malawi National Women's Premiership.
Deborah Henry scores her 9th goal of the season to put the Bankers ahead in 8th minute before Mphatso Gondwe doubling the scores with a powerful shot after 23 minutes but Bernadetter Nyenga pulled one back for the visitors 9 minutes later to keep the Bankers chasing for the game till 90 minutes.
Head coach for the Bankers, Andrew Chikhosi, was not happy with the team's performance into the game
"It is quite good that we have won but maybe with the words that it is a derby gave our players too much pressure which made them play badly," said Chikhosi.
Meanwhile, assistant coach for Civil Women, Collins Pofera attributed the loss to a low start in the early minutes of the game.
"We conceded those early two goals but we encourage the girls and they came back into the game. Second half we were good but we could not score, we have accepted the result," said Pofera.
The Bankers have restored their five points gap on top of the standings as they have 21 points from 7 wins while Civil Women remain 7th with 6 points from one win three draws and three defeats in the league.
