Lions breaks into NDL top three
Red Lions claimed their second consecutive victory of the season as they beat resilient Chintheche United 3-1 at the Balaka Stadium on Sunday to move into the top three of the League.
Abel Gerald's 27th minute strike for Lions was cancelled out by Robin Chioka 6 minutes later but the forward restored the lead on 55th minute before Mathews Simbeyi's 85th minute strike sealed the win at the Balaka Stadium.
Head coach for the hosts, Malumbo Mkandawire, said despite claiming a health win, they faced a tough side making the game hard.
"It was a tough game, maybe people are just hearing about Chintheche United. It is a good side, well organised and it demanded our hardwork in order to win." Said Mkandawire.
On his part, head coach for Chintheche , Isaac Katete, said his team played very well despite losing in the match and he will take the positives from the overall performance.
"We started very well and we controlled the game up until we gifted the
goal so you know its a team of youngsters and they were disturbed after that goal. However I'm happy with the performance." He said.
After the win, Red Lions are third with 6 points from two wins and one defeat having scored four and concedes two goals while Chintheche are 7th with four points from one win, one draw and one defeat and have scored three goals and conceded four.
